In a city known for its economic challenges, local food justice advocates are taking a community first approach to improving food access.

Detroit is the type of city that’s often referenced in discussions about food insecurity in the United States. While food access has long been a problem in the city, with the rise of urban farms and a growing restaurant scene, Detroit is now also being discussed in the context of innovative solutions to help feed Americans.

On the latest episode of The Fifty One, reporter Taylor Wizner looks at how one food pantry’s ideas in Detroit could be implemented across the country.

The Fifty One is presented by DAME and produced and distributed by Critical Frequency. In our first season, we worked with local reporters across the country to explore food access in their communities. You can subscribe and listen to the full season on all platforms including Stitcher, Apple, and Google Play.
