In many urban communities there is a confluence of issues driving the lack of healthy food access. One organization in South Los Angeles is working to address it holistically.

Los Angeles County has one of the highest rates of food insecurity in the country, with approximately 1.4 million people food insecure.

In episode 9 of The Fifty One, reporter Melissa Chadburn talks to the organizers at Community Coalition about what solutions for food access have been attempted in South LA, what has worked and what lessons learned can be applied to other communities.

The Fifty One is presented by DAME and produced and distributed by Critical Frequency. In our first season, we worked with local reporters across the country to explore food access in their communities. You can subscribe and listen to the full season on all platforms including Stitcher, Apple, and Google Play.
