Summer is done and it’s time to push the wedges and ballerina flats to the back of the closet. The time has come for renewal, re-invention and re-cognition. And for a new pair of shoes.

This fall, designers have shown us that it’s all about sophistication, so let’s start with the shoe that best combines three fall fashion essential elements – clever, chic and cool.

The lace-up boot will perfectly reflect this initiative, especially paired with a menswear-ish pant or a fabulous pencil skirt suit. We like them right below the ankle for more leg definition, with an inch or two of platform for edginess. And a patent finish gives much more versatility.

But most importantly, remember that teetering around uncomfortably is not the goal. As Coco Chanel famously said, “Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury.” So try walking around first to ensure the feel matches the look.
