This I Know: Tura Satana

Being badass and feminine is a tough mix. Tura Satana not only pulls it off, she invented it.

What else does Tura know?

How do friends and family describe you?
Tough, independent – just ask my daughters – I was tough when they were growing up.  My grandkids would say the same thing.

If you had to swap professions, with whom would you swap?
I don’t know if I’d change anything.  I learned to how to live my life and not make the same mistakes again.

Best advice you can give:
You have to stay on top of whatever’s going on around you.  Don’t stop trying. Never let anyone tell you you aren’t good enough.

Advice never to take:
That I had to keep my man happy. No, he’s gotta keep me happy.  And to give up – I have NEVER done that.  If I did, I would’ve blown my brains out a long time ago.

High Maintenance or Low Maintenance?

Oh, high maintenance.  I expect to be treated like I’m made out of gold.  Ha – technically I am.  I’m definitely high maintenance – I like expensive meals, flowers, expensive perfume.

Plastic Surgery…
Sucks.  And is something I’ve never had.  Boobs – don’t believe in it – they look phony and unreal.  Hell, if I had surgery, it’d have to be a breast reduction.  That’s the worst thing about my boobs, they never stopped growing. Now they’re a 40 HH.

My favorite place in the whole world is...
Switzerland.  I went in 2002.  Our tour of the Baltic states is one of the nicest memories I have from traveling around. The fans worshipped the ground we walked on.  It makes you feel really good.  The fans in Denmark, Finland and Switzerland were adorable.  They knew every line in that movie.  [We’d do a reading] and ad lib and they’d get mad, ‘No, no that’s not what it says.’ We had to explain that the other person wasn’t there, we had to fill in, then they understood.

What’s the best part of your career?
My fans - I love my fans. My fans on MySpace and Facebook make me feel good – after all these years – 43 years since Faster Pussycat came out.  Without them, I wouldn’t be here.  I’d be on a shelf somewhere – they would’ve forgotten me.
