She Loves Geeks

How to bridge the gap between you and your beloved geek

6. You'll also have a cranky geek on your hands if he isn't able to indulge in his activities for enough hours (that's right, hours) during the week.

7. You must be direct. Geeks often are not up to speed on the nuances of conversation and are very literal. Arguments may seem to go on for hours, with him spelling out his logical defense again and again: "You said we were leaving in an hour; by my estimate and the clock on the computer, I still had two minutes and fifteen seconds."

8. He's super analytical. That's just how his mind works - he's used to solving problems. He may read more into simple comments than you intend: "What exactly did you MEAN by 'Fine, then next time I won't invite you out'?"

9. He will freak out if you touch his stuff. Do not rearrange games because you think you're being sweet by alphabetizing them, do not even think of moving his computer because you want to dust around it, and, for god's sake, please do not pick something up and put it somewhere else. He has systems, and you're messing them up.

10. He may not be the most fashionable guy, unless you're dating an undercover geek, which is a type becoming more and more common these days. These are the guys who, motivated by the promise of advancing their careers, moved from their small towns to bigger metropolises. Undercover geeks learn to interact properly with humans, and become rather social. You might even meet one at a (gasp!) bar. He'll be the guy wearing Nike Dunks, with a job in graphic design and an interest in mid-century furniture. He's witty and sarcastic and has lots of female friends. You might not even know you're dating a geek until, comfortable enough with you, he reveals more of what he's really like: a goofy, lovable guy with an entire room full of toys in their original packaging.
