What’s left to eat?
In the span of one week, Topps, a leading maker of frozen burger meat, recalled 22 million pounds of beef due to E. coli contamination, and subsequently filed for bankruptcy. Then Sam's Club recalled of 840,000 pounds of beef patties. That was enough bad news for carnivorous women. But now ConAgra is taking their delicious golden-crusted Banquet pot pies off of shelves, just because people don’t follow the microwave directions and are getting salmonella. Should we all have to suffer?
And being a vegetarian won’t save you. Apparently salmonella loves lettuce.
Would you like some cancer with that shake?
Have you measured your mother’s hips lately? A new study indicates that the rounder and wider your mom’s hips, the greater your risk of breast cancer. And the only way to avoid exposure would be to not have been in her womb.
Hormonal birth control has long been considered the only pre-emptive measure to fight ovarian cancer. Not anymore. A low fat, high fiber diet consisting of five servings of fruits and veggies and six servings of grains a day will help protect you against one of the most deadly forms of cancer known to woman-kind. Bonus, for some at least, you can go back to the Rhythm method.
And for men: if you’re going to get prostate cancer, try to do it after May. Men diagnosed in the summer and fall have a better chance of survival than those who hear the bad news in the spring and winter.
Maybe Promises will shut down now
A new era in alcoholism treatment is upon us. When depression became treatable by your family physician, the stigma began to go away. Now, we may see the same thing happen with alcoholism. Topamax, a migraine and epilepsy pill that your doctor can prescribe, has been proven to taper off booze hounding without rehab, detox, or going cold turkey. So it’s now easier and more affordable to stop drinking. Britney, are you listening?
Your baby will have to quit abusing right alongside you, because over-the-counter infant cold medicine is being pulled from the shelves.
