Upside, Downside
If you’re good at inversions (any pose in which you’re upside down) you deal well with change. You remain Zen when circumstances are askew. You can live in a house while you fix it up and flip it.
Twisted Sister
If you like twists, you approach life fearlessly. You are open-minded and willing to see others’ point of view. When serial killers get arrested, you’d be the first to ask about their childhoods.
Bend Over Backwards
If you thrive in backbends you are too accommodating. You insist that it’s “no trouble at all” when your sister’s husband’s second cousin wants you to drive her to the airport. At 11:57pm. On New Year’s Eve.
Balancing Act
If you like balance poses, you maintain equilibrium in all areas of life. You boast a perfectly monitored checkbook, a thrilling social life and still make time to read to old people on weekends.
Holding on, Letting go
Do you hold poses for a long time? Then you have no fear of commitment. Do you cling on doggedly even when your body signals that it’s time to let go? Or do you move into a pose, and then panic and get out because you think you might get hurt? You get the idea.
Denial
If you persist in not doing yoga, despite thousands of years of evidence, then you are firm in your convictions, immune to peer pressure. You have creaky, stiff joints. You wish you didn’t. Namaste.
Susanna Brisk has been practicing yoga for more than eight years. Her favorite poses are hip openers such as "happy baby." Go figure.
