American Anthem (1986)
Dir: Albert Magnoli
Stars: Janet Jones, Mitchell Gaylord
This one, about a pair of gorgeous gymnasts, may seem a little cheesy post-Y2K. But, come on, what’s sexier than a hot guy training in the steamy woods at midnight? Or cooler than a blonde bombshell rebelling against traditional floor routines to the tune of ’80s keyboards? It’s also historically important—since the male lead was the first American to score a perfect 10, in the 1984 Olympics.

Bull Durham (1988)
Dir: Ron Shelton
Stars: Kevin Costner, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins
Hilarious and smart, this is quite possibly the best mix of sport and romance ever, from astounding come-on lines to edge-of-your-seat baseball moments. Minor league veteran Crash Davis (Costner) is brought in to groom rookie Nuke Laloosh (Robbins). Aficionado Annie Savoy (Sarandon) also trains Nuke with a mix of sexual bondage and poetry. As Nuke shapes up, Annie finds herself drawn to Crash. Cue the heart strings.

The Cutting Edge (1992)
Dir: Paul Michael Glaser
Stars: D.B. Sweeney, Moira Kelly
Full of sexual tension and triple axles. A spoiled rich girl and an equally arrogant ex-hockey stud team up for Olympic pairs figure skating. Try not to melt over that final unforgettable line, “Just remember who said it first.â€

Love & Basketball (2000)
Dir: Gina Prince-Bythewood
Stars: Sanaa Lathan, Omar Epps
Basketball has never been more epic. Here we follow the journeys of two gifted ballers from age 11 to the NBA and WNBA, respectively. Their paths cross and diverge over a couple decades, but the idiots just can’t seem to see that all they need is each other. So romantic, this movie well deserves all six awards it ended up winning. Strip basketball, anyone?

Match Point (2006)
Dir: Woody Allen
Stars: Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Rhys Meyers
Woody Allen’s subtle, sexy and dark meditation on luck. Chris (Meyers) quits pro tennis and moves to London, where he meets Tom—a charming, wealthy chap who invites him to his country estate. Tom’s sister falls for Chris, but Chris has his eyes on Tom’s fiancé, the voluptuous Nola (Johansson). What’s a boy to do?
