2010 is shaping up to be an exciting year. With the World Cup in South Africa (thrilling, we know) and the potential implosion of the Internet both on deck for '10, can the first 365 days of our next decade get any more awesome? Sure can, because shoemaker Dr. Martens also plans to release a new line of women's apparel during that same time.
But let's not get ahead of ourselves and answer the obvious questions first. Yes, Docs are still around. No, they didn't disappear into the 90s pop culture black hole like "The Rachel" haircut and the band Letters to Cleo. In fact, the Dr. Marten brand is actually looking to expand, and recently hired former Perry Ellis creative director, Jerry Kaye, to lead the charge.
"I am anxious to bring my broad experience in apparel design and branding strategy from the realm of fashion forward lifestyle collections to the development and reinterpretation of major global brands that already possess such unique cultural heritage," Kaye said. In other words, flannel shirts for everyone!
