From Siouxsie’s music (The Banshees/the tribal beat experimentation of the Creatures) to her distinct look – if there’s one word to describe her, it would be “striking.” Three decades into her career, Siouxsie releases Mantaray, her debut solo effort. “Into a Swan” opens like a pealing siren call – Siouxsie’s beguiling voice complementing an industrial surge. Mantaray’s best comprises seductive rhythms, tension, and distortion; elsewhere noir/melancholy stylings take precedence. While the latter is less appealing, a good third of Mantaray is Siouxsie at her finest.
