Women: Don’t Start-Up Without One

Start-ups are more likely to succeed with women at helm.

A recent Dow Jones report titled “Women at the Wheel” details how venture-backed companies with a female executive are more likely to succeed than those without.

“At successful companies, the median proportion of female executives was 7.1%; at unsuccessful companies, 3.1%,” the report said. In other words, the more women, the better.

And there’s certainly room for more women - only 1.3% of the companies had a female founder, 6.5% had a female CEO and 20% had one or more female C-level executives, most of whom were in sales and marketing.

Though the report was light on giving reasons for this phenomenon, in this sensitive economy, businesses may not want to risk it. One way of capitalizing on these new findings would be for start-ups to purge their staff of men altogether.
