Candy Crowley to Moderate Presidential Debate

Maybe the first female moderator in 20 years can, you know, get them to answer the damn question.

After three teenage girls from New Jersey delivered a change.org petition with over 120,000 signatures to the Commission on Presidential Debates at the end of July asking for a female moderator for the Presidential debates this fall, it seems that someone actually listened

The commission confirmed that CNN’s Candy Crowley will indeed be moderating the second of three debates between President Obama and Mitt Romney, scheduled for Oct. 16 in Hempstead, NY, the first time a woman will moderate since ABC’s Carole Simpson moderated the second debate between George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and Ross Perot in 1992.

As CNN’s Chief Political Correspondent and anchor of CNN’s State of the Union, Crowley is clearly a great choice. The other two debates are being moderated by old standbys Jim Lehrer and Bob Schieffer, so maybe Crowley can liven things up a bit and bring some testicular fortitude that the boys haven’t quite been able to muster up and actually get the candidates to answer the damn question.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if Crowley could squelch a talking point before the end of the sentence and strongly, but tactfully, nudge the candidate back to the question at hand? Now that would be change we can believe in.
