Top Jobs in the Military Industrial Complex Go to Women

The US Defense Dept. sees a steep rise in the number of women – and in senior positions too.

Have you heard? Women are on the rise in the military.

Current President and CEO of BAE Systems, Linda Hudson is probably the most powerful woman in the defense industry, but after four decades in the game she has observed several other women rise to top and second tier positions in an arena that’s best known for male personalities and egos.

Marilyn Hewson will become the first female President and COO of Lockheed Martin, the biggest defense contractor in the world this January. Around the same time, Phebe Novakovic will become Chairman and CEO of America’s #3 defense contractor, General Dynamic, while #5, Northrop Grumman has had such a shake up that now half of their top execs are women.

No doubt a woman’s touch is just what the sector needs. And maybe little girls won’t fight so hard to play with her brothers army men, now that they can busy themselves writing up defense contracts.
