When the First Lady buys panties by the bunch it gets everyone’s panties in a bunch
A British newspaper reports that Michelle Obama went on a $50,000 lingerie shopping spree at Agent Provocateur. The White House denies it, but as Mark Twain said, a lie can travel halfway round the world while the truth is putting on its Manolos. Or something like that.
If it is true—and only the presidential staff will know for certain—who cares? America quite likes watching its celebrities splash the cash around. Calista Gingrich eats breakfast, lunch and dinner at Tiffany’s. Mitt Romney bets stakes of $10,000 like twenties. The women on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills buy $25,000 sunglasses to do us all the service of covering their faces. America trudges on.
And even if Mrs Obama did indulge, which she officially didn’t, she’d have a long way to go before approaching the First Lady lingerie record, held since the 90's by Barbara Bush. Always the quiet ones.
